Miriam grabbed a window seat, looked out at me with the biggest, most excited smile I've ever seen on her, and waved good-bye. It's just Sterling and me.
That's actually a character backpack. The straps in front are wide with "buttons" on them, and there's a purple hood that comes out of a zipper pocket in back.
So, yes, he did wear that to school, and loved all the comments.
